At the age of 38, Holly was diagnosed with aggressive, stage 2 Triple Negative Breast Cancer, and a new blog was born: So, Apparently I Have Breast Cancer, in which she shared, no holds barred, the emotional and physical realities of going through such a journey, including a double mastectomy and chemotherapy. A carrier of the BRCA 1 hereditary gene mutation, Holly had additional risk factors she had to contend with, and took the life-altering steps necessary to now be considered an ovarian cancer “previvor.”

Throughout her recovery, Holly started feeling a deep calling to turn some of her Huffington Post dating and relationship blogs, as well as her breast cancer blogs, into an autobiographical solo show (all names changed, of course!), with the wish that sharing her struggles and healing bring solace or hope - and some laughter - to anyone who may be suffering. This is not just a show about breast cancer; it explores love and dating, self-worth, paralyzing societal and gender expectations, labels, and pressures, overcoming disappointment and loss, and, ultimately, triumphing when find our way to who we truly are, underneath it all, seeing that there was, in fact, a point and a purpose to everything and everyone.

Deconstructing Holly premiered in March 2020 to pre sold-out crowds and critical acclaim at The Actors Workout Studio/Force of Nature Productions in North Hollywood, and as an official selection of SOLOFEST 2020, the largest solo festival on the West Coast, put on by the Whitefire Theatre in Sherman Oaks. During the COVID shut-downs, it was presented via Zoom as a benefit to raise money both for theatres in danger of closing due to the shutdowns and cancer patient support and research foundations. Upon the world re-opening, Deconstructing Holly made its come back at The Hollywood Fringe Festival 2021, winning the “Best of Broadwater” Encore Award and as an official selection of the Los Angeles “Binge Fringe Festival.” It subsequently got nominated for Broadway World’s “Best Solo Show” of 2021.
